    What is MUNI Haiku?

MUNI is the San Francisco Municipal Railway. MUNI Haiku celebrates and shakes a fist at all that is good, bad and curious about SF public transit.

The world-famous and locally-reviled fleet is made up of gas buses, electric buses, connector buses, historic streetcars, lightrail trains and the iconic cable cars. It's complemented in some parts of town by BART, the subway that connects SF to its outskirts. The creator of this site absolutely worships the Italian orange F Markets.

    Everyone looks down
Staring at their screens with frowns
    Stop and smell the muni!

    Muni announcement:
    3 languages, 2 days late
    no one yields their seat.

    A Twitter Account,
    I’m @SFmunitrain!
    So I may bitch too!

    trying to get to work
    oh shit, everything’s burned down
    and we hit a horse
    – Jill C., inspired by Market St. streetcar before & after 1906 quake (video)

    MUNI broke my heart.
    Ninety minutes to downtown?
    Sigh. Guess I must drive.
    –Laurie M.

    Backpack between two
Knees, he fixed his contacts, not
    Swearing more than once.

    Hi rude MUNI man!
Budget cuts are on the way
    Oops, there goes your job!

    WTF Muni?
“No” street? What are you thinking?
    It’s “Noe” street. Duh.

    I wait an hour
Yet I’m solo on the bus.
    I don’t like this route.
    -Matt Foley (Bus #8562)

    You are a weird bus
    Winding around Myra Way
    Where are you going?
    -Matt Foley (Bus #8526)

    Man with little hair
    He’s wearing socks and slippers
    Quite fashionable.
    -Matt Foley (Bus #8562)

    It’s Saturday night,
    And I’m here writing haikus
    I am really cool.
    -Matt Foley

    I pull the long cord
“Please exit through the rear doors”
    Green light, and I’m free

    My nose sinking down
    into my turtleneck top
    makes a small gas mask.

    here’s my bus ride home:
    board at the Phelan Building
    off at Laguna

    talking to yourself
    rambling muttering spitting
    who knows about you

    taken in a gust
    I don’t always feel I must
    I just love the bus

    Gold exterior
It struck a chord in our hearts
    Farewell, Culture Bus.
